Re-Mapping
No hardware changesStage 1 Re-Map
A custom file written for your engine on standard hardware. More power, better throttle response, and your original map kept on file.
Collection
Manufacturers write one map for every market a car is sold in. A custom file written for your engine, in this country, on this fuel, is where the difference comes from — more power, better economy, or both if the engine has it in it.

Re-Mapping
No hardware changesA custom file written for your engine on standard hardware. More power, better throttle response, and your original map kept on file.
Re-Mapping
Fuel-focused fileThe same process aimed at fuel rather than power. Written for low-rev torque so a loaded van or a motorway commute uses less diesel.
Re-Mapping
TCU fileThe gearbox side of the equation. Faster shifts, higher torque limits and an end to hunting between gears.
Re-Mapping
Supporting mods neededFor cars already running upgraded hardware. Written around what is actually fitted, after we have checked it over.
How it works
We look at the engine before we look at the software. A re-map leans on what is already there, so anything marginal gets raised with you before a file is written.
The factory map is read off the ECU and archived under your registration. It stays on file indefinitely, which is what makes going back a short job rather than a rescue.
Written for your engine, gearbox and how you actually use it — not a generic download with your registration typed into the paperwork.
It goes out on the road before you get the keys. Drive it, and if you do not like it the original map goes back on at no cost.
Realistic numbers
These are typical ranges for a healthy engine on a Stage 1 file, not a promise for your car. Send the registration and we will give you the figures for your exact engine before you book anything.
| Engine | Typical power | Typical torque |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0 turbo diesel (VW, BMW, Ford) | +25–30% | +20–25% |
| 2.0 turbo petrol (Audi, VW, BMW) | +15–25% | +15–20% |
| 3.0 turbo diesel (Land Rover, BMW) | +15–20% | +15–20% |
| Small turbo petrol (1.0–1.4) | +15–20% | +15–25% |
| Naturally aspirated petrol | +3–7% | +3–7% |
Figures vary with the state of the engine, its service history and the fuel you run. An engine with a fault will gain less and should be fixed first — we will say so if that is what we find.
Before you book
Tuning attracts a certain amount of nonsense. These are the things a straight garage says up front, and they are the reason people send their cars back to us.
It is an MOT failure and illegal for road use. If yours is blocked or faulty, that is a repair — and we would rather fix it than delete it and hand you a car you cannot legally drive.
A re-map is a modification. Not declaring it gives an underwriter grounds to refuse a claim, so we put the details in writing for you to forward. Most note it for a modest premium change.
Naturally aspirated engines gain very little, and a tired engine should be fixed before it is tuned. We will tell you that on the phone rather than after you have paid.
Saved before anything is written and kept on file. Putting the car back to standard — for a warranty visit, a sale or because you changed your mind — is straightforward.
What customers say
Had my Mercedes C180 in with Kaine to replace both front suspension springs. I knew that this was not an easy job on this car. Dropped the car off in the morning and it was ready that afternoon. He did an amazing job and I'll be recommending him to friends and family for any work that they need doing. 5 stars!
Had my Audi S3 in for a complete overhaul — Kaine supplied and fitted all the parts, including cam belt, water pump, a full service and a balance shaft delete. He also noticed one of my rear callipers was sticking, so recommended and fitted a new calliper and new rear discs and pads too. A 5 star service — I'll only use Kaine from now on for any mechanical work.
Exceptional experience with Kaine. Came out to me, took my car and fixed it all within two hours. Very impressed and will definitely call him if needed again. Great price.
Book them together
Fresh oil and filters put the engine in the best state to take a new file, and the belt is the one thing you never want to be marginal afterwards. Booked in the same visit, we price them together.
Servicing
The full annual service. Every filter, a 40 point safety check and the wheels off to inspect the brakes properly.
Servicing
The one job where leaving it too long writes the engine off. Replaced to the manufacturer's schedule, water pump included where sensible.
Questions
When it is done properly, yes. We write a custom file for your specific vehicle rather than loading a generic one, stay within the tolerances the components were designed for, and check the engine over before we start. An engine that is already tired is a different conversation, and we will have it with you before writing anything.
Yes, and we would say so even if it cost us the work. A re-map is a modification, and failing to declare it gives an insurer grounds to refuse a claim. Most will note it for a small premium change; we will give you the details in writing to send them.
It can affect a powertrain claim, which is why the original map matters. We save it before writing anything, so the car can be returned to standard before a dealer visit. Be aware that some manufacturers can see that an ECU has been written to, and we will tell you which those are for your vehicle.
No. Removing or disabling emissions equipment is an MOT failure and illegal for road use. If a DPF is blocked that is a fault to diagnose and fix — deleting it hides the symptom and leaves you with a car that cannot legally be on the road.
It depends entirely on the engine. Turbocharged diesels typically gain 25–30%, turbo petrols 15–25%, and naturally aspirated engines very little. Send us the registration and we will tell you the realistic figures for your exact vehicle rather than a headline number.
At any time. Your original map is archived under your registration and kept indefinitely, so restoring it is a short job. There is no charge for putting it back if you simply do not get on with how the car drives.
Before, ideally. Fresh oil and filters mean the engine is in the best state to take a new file, and it is a sensible moment to catch anything that would have been a problem later. We will price the two together if you book them in the same visit.
