How it works
Best for: anyone who wants recovery and immobilisation from one box rather than two, and the least expensive way on this page to get both.
This does two jobs that are usually two products. As a tracker it is Thatcham S5 approved, reporting position continuously over GPS, GLONASS and the mobile network, with a manned control room behind it. As an immobiliser it watches for a recognised driver card and blocks the engine starting when one is not present.
The cards are the part you carry. Two rechargeable Bluetooth driver detection cards come with it, along with a charger — they are not coin-cell fobs to keep replacing. Carry one and the car behaves exactly as it always did. Leave them in the house and the car will not start for anybody, including somebody holding your keys.
The app is where you override it. Valet and service modes suspend the immobilisation so a garage or a car park attendant can move the vehicle without your card, and you turn them back off from your phone. The same app gives live location, journey history, geofences and push alerts, along with motion and battery-disconnect warnings.
It fits things a lot of systems will not. SmarTrack's CAN interface covers electric and hybrid vehicles as well as conventional ones, and cover extends across Europe rather than stopping at the Channel.
One thing to be straight about: the subscription is not ours and is not included. You pay Global Telemetrics directly, and the figures below are theirs. Without it the hardware stays in the vehicle but stops reporting, and any insurance certificate based on it would no longer stand.
Which cars? Cars, vans and motorhomes, including electric and hybrid vehicles. Send us the registration and we will confirm your exact model against SmarTrack's compatibility list before you book.
Warranty: Three years on the unit and cards, with the subscription billed by Global Telemetrics.
The detail
The things people ring up to ask before booking — how the app behaves, what the subscription actually costs you, and what paperwork you end up with.
Two rechargeable cards come as standard, which covers most households, and they charge rather than take batteries. Keep one on you and the car starts normally; keep the spare somewhere sensible at home rather than in the glovebox, because a card left in the car is not a spare.
Forget your card and the car will not start. That is the system working, not a fault — but it is also why the app matters: you can suspend immobilisation from your phone to get moving, then turn it back on. If your phone is flat as well, the control room can be rung.
The cards are Bluetooth and rechargeable rather than the coin-cell fobs some systems use, so there is nothing to keep buying, but they do need putting on the charger occasionally. The app tells you when one is running low.
The Meta Trak trackers on this site include their first subscription term in the installed price, and the figures quoted against them are what a renewal costs later. This one does not work that way.
SmarTrack monitoring is billed by Global Telemetrics directly, from the day it is commissioned, and we do not take a margin on it. That is why the fitted price here is lower than a comparable Meta Trak S5 while the running cost starts sooner. Add the two together before comparing them against anything else.
The lifetime option is worth a thought on a vehicle you intend to keep: at £749 it pays for itself against the annual rate in under four years, and it moves with you if the unit is transferred.
Every tracker here is driven from one app, on iOS and Android. You get live location, thirty days of journey history, geo-fences that tell you when the vehicle leaves an area you have drawn, motion and low-battery alerts, and driver behaviour reporting if you want it.
There are also garage, service and privacy modes. Garage and service modes stop the system treating a legitimate visit to a workshop as a theft. Privacy mode stops journeys being logged at all, which matters if the vehicle is shared or used personally as well as for work.
We set the app up on your phone before we leave, and we would rather spend twenty minutes showing you the alerts than have you find out how they work on the worst night of the year.
A tracker has to stay connected to report anything, and on the monitored systems there are people staffing a control room around the clock. That is what the subscription pays for.
On the Meta Trak systems the first subscription term is included with the installation, so there is nothing further to pay on the day. What you pay is the renewal when that term ends: currently £189.95 a year or £499.95 for three years on the S5 systems, and £119.95 a year or £329.95 for three years on S7. The Shield is self-monitored and cheaper to run at £75.95 a year.
We will remind you before a renewal falls due. If you let it lapse, the hardware stays in the vehicle but stops reporting, and any insurance certificate based on it would no longer stand.
Once the system is installed and registered, you get a certificate in your name confirming the make, model and Thatcham category fitted. That is the document an underwriter asks for, and it is usually what they are waiting on before they will renew or offer cover on a higher-value vehicle.
Send us your insurer's wording before you book. If what they have asked for does not match what you are about to buy, we would rather tell you that up front than issue a certificate that does not satisfy them.
The Shield is the exception: it is self-monitored, carries no Thatcham approval, and no certificate comes with it.
We come to your home or workplace anywhere around Milton Keynes. Allow two to three hours for an S7 and three to four for an S5 with driver tags. You keep the vehicle throughout — there is no need to be without it for a day.
The unit is hidden on the vehicle's existing wiring. Nothing is cut and nothing is left on show, which is the point: a tracker somebody can find is a tracker somebody can remove.
Before we go, the app is on your phone, the tags are paired, the alerts are set to suit where you park, and you have had a proper run through. Afterwards we are on the end of the phone — for a renewal question, a new phone, or moving the unit to your next vehicle.
Monitoring
A tracker needs a live connection to report anything, and that is what the subscription pays for. It is the cost people get caught out by elsewhere, so we quote it separately and in writing before you commit — never rolled into a headline price.

What customers say
Had my Mercedes C180 in with Kaine to replace both front suspension springs. I knew that this was not an easy job on this car. Dropped the car off in the morning and it was ready that afternoon. He did an amazing job and I'll be recommending him to friends and family for any work that they need doing. 5 stars!
Had my Audi S3 in for a complete overhaul — Kaine supplied and fitted all the parts, including cam belt, water pump, a full service and a balance shaft delete. He also noticed one of my rear callipers was sticking, so recommended and fitted a new calliper and new rear discs and pads too. A 5 star service — I'll only use Kaine from now on for any mechanical work.
Exceptional experience with Kaine. Came out to me, took my car and fixed it all within two hours. Very impressed and will definitely call him if needed again. Great price.
Fast mobile installation
Send us the registration. We confirm exactly what fits your vehicle and what it costs fitted, before you commit to anything.
We call to arrange a time and place that suits you — at home, or at work while the car sits in the car park.
Your installer arrives fully equipped and works at the vehicle. Most fits take two to four hours, with nothing cut, drilled or left on show.
We set it up with you and stay until you can use it confidently. Your manufacturer warranty is unaffected and it can be removed later without a trace.
Works well with
Each of these covers something the others cannot. Fitted in the same visit they cost less than booking them separately — ask and we will price the combination.

Immobilisers
The best-known immobiliser on the market. A disarm sequence on buttons the car already has, with nothing for a thief to find, clone or jam.

Dashcams
2K at the front and Full HD behind, through a 140 degree lens with true parking mode. Road Angel's most reviewed camera, and the one we fit most.
Questions
Both, from one unit, which is the whole point of it. The tracking side is Thatcham S5 approved with a manned control room; the immobilisation side blocks the engine starting whenever a recognised driver card is not in the vehicle. If you were otherwise going to buy a tracker and an immobiliser separately, this does both for less than the pair.
They do the same two jobs. The Deadlock arms at engine off and can also be blocked remotely from the app even when a tag is present, which this cannot; it is the stronger system and it is priced accordingly. This one is over two hundred pounds cheaper fitted, carries a three year warranty rather than two, and fits electric and hybrid vehicles that some systems will not. Tell us the vehicle and we will give you a straight recommendation.
If they have asked for a Thatcham S5 system, yes — that is exactly what this is, and we supply the certificate in your name. Send us their wording before you book and we will confirm it in writing. The certificate depends on the subscription being live, so let us know if you intend to run it without one.
Yes. SmarTrack's CAN interface covers electric and hybrid vehicles as well as conventional ones, which is not true of every system on this page. Send us the registration and we will confirm your exact model before you book.
It is paid to Global Telemetrics rather than to us: £199 for a year, £429 for three, or £749 once for the life of the vehicle. There is a monthly option at £17.99 if you would rather. Nothing is included in our fitted price, and we would rather say that plainly than have it arrive as a surprise.
Yes. The hardware is transferable — there is a labour charge to move and recommission it, and the subscription follows you rather than the vehicle. Ring us before you sell and we will sort the timing out.
No. It connects to the car's existing network — nothing is cut, drilled or spliced — and it can be removed later with no trace. Manufacturers and insurers expect to see exactly this kind of installation.
Yes. We fit at your home or workplace anywhere around Milton Keynes, so you keep the car and lose nothing more than a couple of hours.
