How it works
Best for: anyone who wants CAN-bus protection at the sharpest price — and anyone already running a ScorpionTrack S5, because the tracker's driver tag can disarm it.
The X-Series connects to your car's CAN network and, from there, watches for a sequence you choose yourself on buttons already in the cabin — the steering wheel controls, the stalks, the window or climate switches. Until that sequence goes in, the engine will not start for anybody, whether they have a cloned key, a relayed signal from your real key on the hall table, or a replacement ECU.
Arming is automatic. Switch the ignition off and the protection is back on; there is nothing to press and nothing to remember on the way out of the car.
The part worth understanding is what it does not do. It makes no cut in any circuit, so there is no severed wire for a thief's diagnostic tool to flag, and it emits no radio frequency of any kind, so there is no signal to sniff out or jam. Somebody who suspects an immobiliser is fitted still has nothing to find.
Living with it is straightforward. You can change the PIN yourself, anywhere from four presses to twenty. Service mode hands the car to a garage or a valet without handing over your sequence. And if the PIN ever goes out of your head, the emergency reset card issued at installation is what gets you moving.
If you already run a ScorpionTrack S5, the driver tag that came with it will disarm this as well — one less thing in your hand, and the reason we fit a lot of these alongside Scorpion trackers.
Which cars? Most vehicles with a CAN network, including electric cars and motorhomes. Send us the registration and we will confirm your exact model against Scorpion's compatibility list before you book.
Warranty: Two years on the unit, plus lifetime support from us on the sequence.
The detail
The things people ring up to ask before booking — how the app behaves, what the subscription actually costs you, and what paperwork you end up with.
They do the same job in the same way: a sequence on the car's own buttons, nothing on show, nothing broadcast. The honest difference is recognition rather than protection. The Ghost is the name specialist insurers and owners' forums already know, and on a high-value car that recognition is worth something at renewal.
The X-Series is fifty pounds less, and is built by Scorpion Automotive in Chorley — the same British factory behind the ScorpionTrack trackers on this site, which have held Thatcham approval for years. If nobody has asked you for a system by name, it is a lot of immobiliser for the money.
The one place it pulls ahead is on a car already carrying a ScorpionTrack S5. The tracker's driver tag disarms the immobiliser, so the two systems behave as one and you carry nothing extra.
It is not Thatcham categorised, and Scorpion say so plainly themselves. Thatcham's S5 and S7 categories describe tracking systems, so an immobiliser sitting outside them is normal rather than a black mark — but if your underwriter has asked for Thatcham in writing, what they want is a tracker, and we would rather tell you that now than after fitting.
What we can give you is TASSA verification: your installation is logged on the TASSA database in your name, and that is the documentation an underwriter asks for on an immobiliser. Send us your insurer's wording before you book and we will confirm in writing whether it satisfies them.
It is also not a tracker, and nothing on this page should be read as one. It stops the car being driven away; it does not tell you where the car went if it leaves on a flatbed. If you want both, the bundles page prices the pair in one visit.
This is the first question almost everyone asks, and the answer is that it was designed for. The Ghost, Phantom and Microbot all have a service mode that suspends the disarm requirement so somebody can start and move the car without knowing your sequence. You switch it on before you drop the car off and clear it when you collect.
The Phantom's runs on a timer and expires by itself, which is the version we prefer — you cannot accidentally leave the car unprotected for a fortnight. On the Autoblok you would either leave a tag with the garage or hand over the PIN override.
Worth telling the garage it is fitted, even in service mode. A technician who knows there is an immobiliser on the car will not spend an hour chasing a non-existent starting fault.
It happens, usually after a fortnight abroad, and the emergency back-up code handed to you at installation is what gets you moving again.
Be clear about this bit, because it matters: we do not keep a copy of your sequence or your back-up code. Nobody here can look it up for you. That is deliberate — a code we held would be a code that could be obtained from us — but it does mean the paperwork you are given on the day is the only copy that exists. Photograph it, store it with your V5 and your insurance documents, and keep it away from the car.
You can change the sequence whenever you like — after a house move, a relationship ending, or handing the car to a young driver. On the Phantom you can do it yourself from your phone. On the others, bring the car to us. If both the sequence and the back-up code are gone, ring us anyway: it becomes a job rather than a phone call, but it is recoverable.
Tell them it is fitted. Not because you have to justify it, but because some policies reduce the premium once there is an immobiliser on the car, and it is one less thing to argue about after a claim.
Be careful with the word Thatcham. Categories S5 and S7 describe tracking systems, not immobilisers, so an immobiliser being 'Thatcham approved' is usually somebody being loose with language. What the systems carry instead is TASSA verification, and we log your installation on the TASSA database in your name — that is the documentation an underwriter asks for.
Send us your insurer's wording before you book. If what they have asked for is a tracker rather than an immobiliser, we would rather tell you that now than after fitting.
We come to your home or workplace anywhere around Milton Keynes and the surrounding towns. Allow two to three hours. You keep the car and lose a morning rather than a day.
On the CAN-based systems nothing is cut, drilled or spliced — the unit connects to wiring already running through the car, and it can be removed later with no trace. The Autoblok is the exception: it interrupts the engine start circuit, so that one is a wiring connection, made properly and reversibly.
When the trim goes back on there is nothing to see. No LED, no keypad, no extra fob. Somebody sitting in the driver's seat would have no way of knowing. That is not a styling decision — a system a thief can spot is a system a thief can plan around.
Before we leave, you choose your sequence, we set up service mode, and we run through it until you are comfortable with it. Then we are on the end of the phone for as long as you own the car.
What customers say
Had my Mercedes C180 in with Kaine to replace both front suspension springs. I knew that this was not an easy job on this car. Dropped the car off in the morning and it was ready that afternoon. He did an amazing job and I'll be recommending him to friends and family for any work that they need doing. 5 stars!
Had my Audi S3 in for a complete overhaul — Kaine supplied and fitted all the parts, including cam belt, water pump, a full service and a balance shaft delete. He also noticed one of my rear callipers was sticking, so recommended and fitted a new calliper and new rear discs and pads too. A 5 star service — I'll only use Kaine from now on for any mechanical work.
Exceptional experience with Kaine. Came out to me, took my car and fixed it all within two hours. Very impressed and will definitely call him if needed again. Great price.
Fast mobile installation
Send us the registration. We confirm exactly what fits your vehicle and what it costs fitted, before you commit to anything.
We call to arrange a time and place that suits you — at home, or at work while the car sits in the car park.
Your installer arrives fully equipped and works at the vehicle. Most fits take two to four hours, with nothing cut, drilled or left on show.
We set it up with you and stay until you can use it confidently. Your manufacturer warranty is unaffected and it can be removed later without a trace.

Questions
Very little, in what it actually does — both are CAN-bus systems disarmed by a sequence on buttons the car already has, with nothing visible and nothing broadcast. The Ghost is the better-known name, which matters with some specialist insurers. The X-Series is fifty pounds less, is built in Britain by Scorpion Automotive, and can be disarmed by a ScorpionTrack S5 driver tag if you have one of their trackers. If nobody has named a system to you, this is the value choice and we are happy to fit it.
No, and Scorpion say so themselves rather than leaving it vague. Thatcham categories S5 and S7 apply to tracking systems, not immobilisers, so this sitting outside them is normal. Your installation is logged on the TASSA database instead, which is what underwriters ask for on an immobiliser. If yours has specifically asked for Thatcham, they mean a tracker — send us the wording and we will tell you straight.
There is nothing for the tool to find. The X-Series makes no cut in any circuit, and a severed wire is exactly what that equipment is looking for. It also emits no radio frequency, so there is no signal to pick up or jam either. Somebody who suspects an immobiliser is fitted is no closer to locating it.
You set service mode before you drop it off, which lets the garage start and move the car without knowing your sequence, then you clear it when you collect. Tell them it is fitted even so — a technician who knows there is an immobiliser will not spend an hour chasing a starting fault that does not exist.
The emergency reset card handed to you at installation is what gets you going, which is exactly what it is for. Keep it with your V5 and insurance documents rather than in the glovebox. We do not hold a copy of your sequence, so that card is the one thing we cannot replace for you — photograph it and store the picture somewhere safe.
Yes. It is fully reversible — nothing is cut, so it comes out without a trace and goes into the next vehicle. There is a labour charge to move and recommission it, and we will check the new car is on Scorpion's compatibility list first.
No. It connects to the car's existing network — nothing is cut, drilled or spliced — and it can be removed later with no trace. Manufacturers and insurers expect to see exactly this kind of installation.
Yes. We fit at your home or workplace anywhere around Milton Keynes, so you keep the car and lose nothing more than a couple of hours.
